Although the global economy began to recover in 2021, with an improvement in the
unemployment rate, the recovery is still weak. The speed of recovery also varies significantly
across regions, countries, sectors, and labor market groups. While developed economies are
experiencing a stronger recovery, the LDCs struggle with weak growth and job losses. The crisis
hit the hardest women, young people, and people with disabilities. The conflict in Ukraine is
expected to seriously set back global economic growth in 2022, create many market shocks, and
lead to more job losses. Additional significant challenges include rising inflation, supply chain
disruptions, policy uncertainties and labor market challenges, as well as child labor practices,
where 1 in 10 children are engaged in child labor worldwide (160 million total children in 2020).
