SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth
Economic growth is addressed as a key SDG to finance the ending of poverty and comes along
with 12 subgoals (8.1-8.10 and 8a. and b). It is about promoting a sustained, inclusive and
sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent working conditions for
all. Since the so called Brundlandt Report 1987 published the main definition of sustainable
development there is also an important second sentence following: “…far from requiring the
cessation of economic growth, it recognizes that the problem of poverty and underdevelopment
cannot be solved unleash we have a new era of growth in which developing countries play a large
role and reap large benefits. “ (World Commission 1987, p. 51).
